Elderly Abuse
Last class’s discussion about elderly people being abused hit home greatly. About two years ago my great aunt the woman who helped raise me had a minor stroke. I flew up to New York to be with her and to see her, she was doing well still shaken up but just needed some physical therapy then she could continue on with life as normal. My aunt who was her care giver put her in a nursing home to go through physical therapy and a nice expensive one to be safe. In there care she “fell” on her way to the bathroom and another time on the way back when she was suppose to be on bed rest and someone was supposed to watch her. In her fall she bruised and injured herself severely and ultimately had a more sever stroke due to the fall. She was taken to a hospital and treated but was incoherent she could not talk she was on life support for about 3 weeks before she finally passed. We have been trying to investigate and hold the nursing home responsible and has been a hard task. I feel as though nothing will bring her back and that is WAS there fault 100% if they were doing there jobs my grandmother would still be alive today. She was no old and inactive person and to see her in that state broke my heart. During the video in class it brought back a lot of emotion and the scary realization that elderly people are being abused everywhere with no voice.

Free Healthcare?
Will universal or national health ever exist in the United states? I don’t know but I surely hope so. Other countries such as Europe Australia and Canada have executed it great but the U.S chooses not to make it happen because of peoples choices? I feel you can have free health care through jobs and if you choose to have cosmetic procedures of things not necessary done them by all means pay for it but everyone in American school not suffer and not have an option of health care.
Can i get a break?
So I did not realize how horrible the United states health care system was until I came to college and heard the horror stories and then finally got sick. Scary incident one, I thought my family had great health care my mom is a nurse practionaer and my father a owns a medical transport company. My parents live in Gainesville and I in Orlando, I got very sick one day and in so much pain that I needed to go to the urgent care the closest thing. Even with my I though great insurance I had to fill out a booklet worth of paper work in all of my pain and pay 150 that I DID not have even before I saw the dr. needless to say I left in all my pain and cried myself to sleep and ending up having to go the the emergency room in an ambulance anyways. With all the money my parents are already paying I feel if I am sick I and have insurance should go to the dr without hassle. Another insane incident. We have not always had dental insurance but finally when we did took the opportunity to finally get my wisdom teeth pulled that have been bothering me for over a YEAR pushing my teeth together and hurting my jar to the point of tears after the insurance and all the money coverage I would still have to pay 400 out of pocket to get my wisdom teeth pulled also that I did not have. At this point my mouth hurts so much I would have headaches and not Tylenol would help. I tried every program in Florida possible but NO ONE does pro bono teeth pulling or at reduced price to I had to take out a credit card to get my teeth pulled. NO WONDER people are going bankrupt even with insurance. If I am already paying 300 dollars a month for insurance I don’t use every day and still have to pay for each procedure does not seem fair to me! Where do people go who have insurance and still cant pay the difference NO WHERE we are just out of luck!
Negligent Sterilization
This whole chapter seemed to be all about the grimy and technical part of medicine. As we all know everyone make mistakes including dr. what I learned about this part of the medical field is who pays for the dr mistakes and how it is taken. If it was intentional and the dr could have avoided it or if the mistake was an act of nature and there was nothing the dr could have done. The scary part is now a days you can sue for either part and Dr are getting more cautious and more steps have to be taken to cover themselves? Is this constant fear of not getting sued hurting the dr and the patient in the long run. I feel strongly so. Now instead of focusing souly on the patient and what treatment needs to be done more is focused on making sure papers are signed and being afraid to give wrong advice. The legal aspect of the medical field has really turned me off. I understand that a lot of the rules are to protect people but feel that Dr should not have to be afraid and really focus on the patient

Optional Care?
In my debate the other day the question was. Do you feel that Physicians should have the right to not treat someone because of moral or conscious objectives. What I was debating was not necessarily how I felt. There was a big grey area in our debate and it was the topic of "conscious or moral objectives" I feel like many Dr's can abuse that and use a religion they are not even devoted to or a personal objection such as race or sexual orientation or not supporting the war to treat patience. I feel if you are against abortion or contraceptives then all means that is valid and patience should know before had that you are not supporting that, but things such as gay or lesbians or a rape victim and rapist should be treated the same and all have the same care. Dr's in the respect should do there job and put there personal problems as side, that patient NEEDS there care. I also feel if you are religious your God given talent is to heal as Jesus. Muhammad. Ganesha or whomever you believe in healed no matter what religion race or economic status was they healed that person, and if you are trying to be "religious", and follow in there footsteps, you should do the same. Jesus healed prostitutes or in our modern times people who need birth control. So if Jesus and these people can put away there believes and heal Dr's can also do the same, people really have to set aside there pet peeves and do there job. There is also a thin line between "conscious objections" and discrimination. Our team did not argue it as much as i thought but some one can say i have a "conscious objective" to treating Jewish people or white people or lesbian women ... when is it just out right discrimination?

Random...
Fear...Fear makes you do a lot of things, it makes you run away, can even make you kill or steal, but most of all fear stops you from doing the things you love, enjoy and just really want to do in life. Many people feel that I am so brave and adventurous but that miss conception that must be put to a Holt. Adventurous for going to NYC on the drop of a dime all the time or going to India with no real friends there to do mission work or moving out of the house when I was 17 to Orlando with no family . Its not bravery at all. It is the fact that I REFUSE to let my fear stop me or dictate my life, and stop me from accomplishing my dreams. Am I scared shitless every time I go somewhere for the first time, or do some thing that has never been done before YES!...but I refuse! My words to you is don't let fear of the unknown stop you from anything. Don't be afraid to go up to that fine ass guy in the club, he might just be your husband or someone you grow very close to, or don't be afraid of becoming an actor, singer or whatever because the fear of failure arouse. At the end of your life all have are your memories and what made you truly happy and it should not be full of REGET

Class debate one
So i know the debate in class was not about abortions, and i am actually very neutral about the situation. I am all about womans right and feel that abortion is not a political or government issue. The governments opinion about abortion or how and when and even any procrastination restrictions should be given. I feel the woman is having the child it is her choice weather she wants to have and abortion or not. As to the 24 hours waiting period i think it is a good idea and cant hurt, but still should not be implimented just for my own personal belifs on the government roles on peoples lives in general. Would i personally get an abortion probally not but has nothing to do with religion or me thinking its wrong in any way. The oppsing side stated that there might be bias counsing that might sway the woman to change her mind and also that they show them pics of there fetus's and would make them distraught. I feel that they had a valid point and that it should not be a pro life or pro choice person giving them advise but a nutral party just there to listen and ask them why on sight which i feel the Dr does any ways but that is neither here or there. Also the pictures of the babies fetus which i feel is not nessicary and a tack to make the mother change her mind completely.
